Days in the life of a songwriter 2

okay, I am still a bit slow with this blog malarky. But I’ll catch up soon enough. We played at the Water Rats in Gray’s Inn Road last Friday 06.05.11 We were supposed to play at 8pm but then discovered that we had been swapped with another band. We finally went on at 8:40 methinks. There were nine of us on stage at times and it was a bit crowded but everything went fantastically well, good thing we’d had a rehearsal at Enterprise studios just 2 days prior. The line up was Jari Salminen on drums, Jenny Wilkinson on viola, Imogen Burman on cello, Antonia Pagulatos and Anastasia Eave on violin. Then there were, Oli Hickie on horn, Joe Carter on trumpet and Zeb Tonkin on trombone who all sounded great from the word go. I did my usual thing of providing the vocals and electric guitar. My old Strat’s first outing in absolute years. I had been warned that the Water Rats had a top end-y type sound and we did our best to counteract that. I turned down the treble on my little vox amp but I think their preference of Beta mics from Shure doesn’t help as they all have extreme presence peaks. We didn’t have everyone there for our sound check but Armando the sound engineer did a really good job I have to say. We collected 9 email addresses from the crowd and managed to have 28 invited guests there. He did not sit back and kept twiddling the knobs. You get 10 quid for 20 people and above that you collect 2 pounds for each guest above 20 which means we made 26 quid for 9 people. Well, we didn’t get the Moet and Chandon did we 😉 Anyway, the people who came seemed to love the songs and the sound so we are looking forward to the coming and hopefully even bigger gigs. Laters folks.
